So you’ve probably read about it, or seen it on the news now. Sexting. What is it? When teens take explicit photos of themselves and text it to their friends. If you get caught sharing or taking pictures, you will be forced to register as a sex offender, under "child pornography". While it is technically child pornography, and you should technically be labeled as a sex offender, don’t you think it’s a little… harsh?
Sexting is usually done among teenagers, around the ages of 15-18. Don’t you think that child pornography and sex offender laws were created to help protect minors and not classify them as one? If you’re 17 years old and make the conscious decision to send a nude picture to someone, that’s your choice. Now I’m not saying that if a 42 year old man takes a picture of a naked 8 year old girl and "sexts" it to people that he shouldn’t be punished. What I am saying that if a teen texts another teen with explicit photos, it’s their choice. I’m not going to get into whether I support the issue or not, but what I believe is that no judge should rule a teenager as a sex offender for "sexting" pictures to his/her boyfriend/girlfriend when they clearly had made the conscious decision to do so.
Agree, disagree? Thoughts?
